I was writing a birthday card for my friend, and I chose this verse to give her: Proverbs 27:17 – “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” I chose that verse because it really showed the friendship we have together. It made me think, “how many TRUE friends do I have?”
True friends should, make you stronger in the Lord, make each other laugh, fun to hang around with, trustworthy, give each other advice, and those are but a few!
Are your relationships with your friends (and anyone) toxic? If they make you feel nervous when you talk to them, put you down, or any of the opposites of the true friend attitudes, it says in the Bible that we should let go of them (Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. – 1 Corinthians 15:33).
My advise to you would simply be to pray about your situations. In the hymn “Blessed Assurance”, the lyrics say “do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer.” Pray not only for your own life, but for your friends’ lives also. And if they are going through anything tough resulting in making them toxic to you, pray about that also, that they’ll see that God is working in their lives (and if they’re not saved, pray for their salvation!)
Through all of the toils and troubles, remember that God is always there for you and He is the TRUE friend!
