Breaking down Psalm 139

Hello everyone!

How are you all today?

Today I will be breaking down Psalm 139 and giving you my personal thoughts on the passage.

If you have not yet read my breaking down of Psalm 23, please click here!

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Take a listen to Psalm 139 here.

O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

The Lord knows and supplies all of our needs, cares for us, and comforts us. He is all-knowing, praise You, Lord Jesus!

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Just by thinking with our mortal brains about the wonders and knowledge God has and knows about us, is too much to comprehend! Even Jesus says “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.” Only in eternity will we find out the answers to the unanswerable!

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

God looks after us ALL THE TIME, and wherever we go, He guides us. Isn’t that truly a loving God?

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Even from our mother’s womb and BEFORE our mother’s womb, God still saw us, and protected us! It’s so lovely to know that we are fearfully and wonderfully made! God is marvellous!

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

I love these two verses. They remind me that even though I babble on to the Lord (maybe a bit too much haha!) His thoughts of me are MORE IN NUMBER THAN THE SAND! I mean, let’s take a moment to think about this, not just the sand on one beach, but THE WHOLE WORLD! That’s innumerable! Thank You God, I owe you one!

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

Woah, anyone who dares to mock God, they’re going DOWN! But it really does offend me when I hear people blaspheme the name of God, it makes me so sad. Jesus died on the cross to stop us from going to eternal torment (https://avoidhell.wordpress.com/2017/12/31/this-is-what-hell-is-like/) and fire, and people blaspheme? People need to be reminded of what Jesus actually did for us (me included)!

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Lord Jesus, please, I pray that I will be a better servant for You. If there be any wicked way in me, please help me to overcome it. I want to be the best I can for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Folks, that was a long one, but I tried to make it look colourful by adding the block quotes!

I would recommend breaking down Scripture, and take some notes, because it really helps me to get closer to God, and I pray it does for You too!
